DELAWARE VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION (PA)
Liz Compitello is a SolSmart Advisor for the Delaware Valley Region (the Greater Philadelphia Region) in Pennsylvania. Liz is a Senior Research Analyst at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission where she has worked since 2009. What drives your interest in working on solar energy issues?
De-carbonizing the energy supply, making energy costs more affordable and less volatile, increasing reliability and resilience, providing alternatives to traditional top-down/centralized methods of power generation that in turn connect individuals to/raise awareness of their consumption, and "democratizing" the energy supply.
What impact do you feel the SolSmart program and you as an Advisor will have on the communities with which you will work?
I think the education and awareness around solar (how affordable it can be, what the (in many cases easily deconstructed) barriers are, and what the benefits are) is an incredible, engaging, and empowering topic that I think our communities will be very receptive to and excited to take action on, especially in anticipation of a growing solar market.
What aspects of your work plan are you most excited about working on?
I'm most excited to work more one-on-one with communities on this topic in general. I hope we can spark more solarize campaigns and can (continue to) have a meaningful impact in the conversation with the utilities. I also hope we can engage the lending community and seed some ideas for innovative projects in the region (like microgrids!).
What do you hope to gain from this experience?
Learning more deeply about how to plan for and spark implementation efforts around solar, gaining confidence in my understanding of this topic, building a stronger skillset, and strengthening my relationship with community leaders in the region.
